There is no doubting the fact that good-old JRPG titles have a place among the classics of the genre. Similarly, there's no doubting the fact that, perhaps, it is time to iterate on the winning formula and come up with something new and even a tiny bit different. This is where Kingdoms of the Dump comes in.
Kingdoms of the Dump is an upcoming RPG set in the Lands of Fill, where players will take control over a trashcan knight in the making - Dustin Binsley - and make an attempt at helping him in saving the Five and Half Kingdoms of the Dump. The game is about trash, if you haven't quite nailed that down just yet.
The premise of the game is pretty simple: "Rescue the trashpicked King, defeat the totally disgusting Toxic Grimelin Army and prevent the Lands of Fill from an all-out war!" Makes sense, no?
In any case, what makes Kingdoms of the Dump interesting are the key differences and - dare we say - innovations that it brings to the faux-JRPG sub-genre. These are related to the hugely increased overworld interactivity for the most part, where the selected player character will be able to jump and explore detailed environments however they wish.
Party mechanics will be making an appearance as well, as one might expect, with the players having the option to switch between different characters, each of which is promised to sport a number of unique abilities for both active combat and overworld traversal.
Another important thing to note is that the game will not feature random battles, but on-screen encounters, meaning that you won't just have mob parties jumping at you out of nowhere as you move peacefully along.
Kingdoms of the Dump is pretty far along the development cycle, but will be getting Kickstarted soon as well, so as to help the process along. Stay tuned for more news on this rather interesting game right here at Game Watcher.
