Publisher and developer Vaki Games today announced that tower defense/hack and slash hybrid Kingshunt will no longer release in Steam Early Access this May, aiming instead for a Fall 2021 launch.
The decision to delay Kingshunt’s Steam Early Access release comes as a result of the alpha tests that have taken place over the past couple of months. While the developer has “made significant progress with Kingshunt and the performance,” the March test session saw it encountering “some challenges” which it spent the “last few weeks” working on.
“As we have been addressing these challenges, my team has determined that additional polish is needed in order to guarantee a smoother Kingshunt gameplay, and this month we secured more funding to the company and Kingshunt development to do this. I know that is not what you want to hear, but my team and I are committed to excellence for Kingshunt,” CEO & Creative Director Teemu Jyrkinen wrote in a post on Steam.
“As a result, I wanted to let you know that our Kingshunt early access schedule has shifted accordingly. Kingshunt wont make the May release window and we’re moving the launch date to fall 2021. As eager as our team is to open the gateways to Kingshunt realm for you, we ultimately feel this is the right decision in order to make sure core gameplay works and we have enough variety for you to play with and the performance is reflective of the insights we have gained through these alpha tests.”
Alpha testers and Founders will still be able to participate in periodic tests – subject to NDAs – in the lead-up to Kingshunt’s new Fall Steam Early Access release window.
In case you’re just now learning about the game, it mixes third-person hack and slash combat with tower defense elements. Its asymmetric PvP sees the defending team of heroes constructing towers and employing their different abilities to protect a base from the attackers, who alongside AI-controlled minions seek to destroy it.
