Riot Games is aiming to release over 120 League of Legends skins in 2020, while also targeting less popular champions.
Jonathan “Bellissimoh” Belliss, League of Legends’ product lead of personalization, went over the approach Riot plans to take with League of Legends’ in a recent video, admitting that the MOBA’s ever increasing roster, now nearing 150 Champions, makes it difficult to make skins for each of them.
League of Legends New 2020 Skins
Belliss explained that Riot often prioritizes popular champions “to delight as many players as [it] can and support [its] business through the next ten years of League”.
Riot’s efforts to push past 120 League of Legends skins in 2020 will focus on targets less popular champions that sometimes took years before they got a new skin. If one of the following champions happens to be your main, new cosmetics are on the way.
- Skarner
- Xerath
- Mordekaiser
- Kindred
- Rek’Sai
- Vel’Koz
- Karthus
- Sion
- Twitch
- Taric
- Pantheon
- Nautilus
- Trundle
- Bard
- Ornn
- Taliyah
Riot hopes that, going forward, champion mains will be able to “count the time since they last got a skin in months instead of years”
This doesn’t mean that League of Legends’ more popular champions will get neglected. Lux, Ezreal, Ahri and Kai’sa were named as future recipients of new 2020 skins.
The larger number of skins League of Legends gets in 2020 also allows Riot to explore “new creative thematics” as it reevaluates the themes that players didn’t grow all that fond of.
The recent Mecha Kingdoms event skins are a first taste of what’s to come.
