Loop Hero’s rogue is a dual wielding, damage dealing, powerhouse: when equipped correctly. Unlike the warrior class, that relies on large amounts of hit-points, regeneration buffs and armour, the Loop Hero Rogue relies on high damage, fast attacks and dodging enemy strikes. Consequently, when playing the rogue, you want to focus on your Evasion, Attack Speed, Counter, and Critical Chance stats. It goes without saying, that equipping high damage weapons is also a priority.
Mechanics
The rogue receives trophies for killing enemy creatures as they move around the loop. Once they make it back to the Camp tile, the items are exchanged for a maximum of eleven new random pieces of equipment (trophies exceeding this number are turned into resources). There are two exceptions to this equipment rule:
- Completing a village quest. The quest itself is obtained by passing over a Village tile and will require the rogue to kill a creature (the creature with a crown above its head). The reward for completing the quest is always two random pieces of equipment—this is the same regardless of the class being played.
- Surrounding a single Treasury tile with Mountain or Meadow tiles. This will empty the Treasury and grant the rogue two pieces of random equipment.
As with any other class, the Battlefield tile can still be used to spawn chests. However, chests will grant rogues resources instead of equipment.
How to Unlock Rogue Class
To unlock the rogue class, you need to build a Refuge at your camp. In order to unlock the Refuge, you must first build a Field Kitchen (Costs: 3 Stable Wood, 2 Preserved Rocks and 1 Food Supply). The Refuge then costs 12 Stable Wood, 2 Preserved Rocks, 4 Stable Metal and 7 Food Supply. It can only be placed next to a Field Kitchen.
Deck Building and Other Tips
Work towards building a Smelter (costs: 5 Preserved Rock, 18 Stable Metal 3 Food Supply, 1 Metamorphosis Orb). This will unlock the Arsenal golden card, which can be added to your deck to unlock the amulet item slot. Amulets give the rogue access to magic hit points (essentially a shield). This is a great way to buff your character as magic hit-points regenerate to full strength at the beginning of each battle.
Since the rogue wants to end battles quickly, it can be useful to add the Desert and Forest cards to your deck. This will allow you to place Desert, Sand Dunes, and Forest landscape tiles onto the map. Each Desert and Sand Dune tile reduces the hit-points of all creatures by .5% and 1% respectively. You can see the cumulative effect of this reduction (as a percentage), in the top right-hand corner of the battle screen. Similarly, Forest tiles increase the hero’s attack speed by 1% per tile placed.
Use crafting (unlocked by building the Smithy (costs: 2 Stable Wood, 4 preserved rock, 7 Stable Metal, 2 Food Supply), and craft the Count’s Chair—crafting produces a random item so this may take some time. The Count’s Chair gives the hero a 1% bonus to their Vampirism stat (which heals the hero for a % of the damage they inflict on an enemy creature). The rogue will never receive an item with a Vampirism bonus whilst on an expedition, so it may seem counter-intuitive to equip the Count’s Chair. However, the rogue starts with a 5% Vampirism class bonus and you can build and equip multiple copies of the Count’s Chair to slowly increase the stat.
You will also need to build a Supply Depot (costs: 9 Stable Wood, 17 Stable Metal, 9 Food Supply and 3 Metamorphosis Orbs) which unlocks the supply feature and allows you to equip items. A Warehouse (costs: 11 Stable Wood, 8 preserved rock, 6 Stable Metal, 10 Orbs of Expansion), will increase the total number of items that you can store and equip.
The above will help you get started playing as the rogue in Loop Hero. However, there are still many different strategies to utilise and plenty of secrets to unlock. So, get out there and start looping.
