We recently reported on Slitherine’s K-Project, their open invitation to indie developers to pitch their ideas for funding. The second success story has now been revealed with Stirring Abyss, a tactical squad-based game with RPG elements and a Lovecraftian theme.
Take command of the submarine USS Salem, or at least what remains of her crew after a top-secret research initiative goes horribly wrong. Set during the early years of the Cold War the crew find their vessel stranded at the bottom of the ocean, surrounded by the ruins of a forgotten civilisation.
Lovecraftian Horror in the Stirring Abyss
Marco Minoli, Marketing Director at Slitherine says, “K-Project was created for this purpose: we look at different angles for the genre and different approaches to a sometimes tired niche. Good ideas often come from small, bold studios that are willing to experiment and we are here to fully support this.”
Stirring Abyss doesn’t rely on jump scares to build its terror, instead opting to engage the player with the weird, disturbing atmosphere and incorporating madness and exhaustion into the game mechanics. The game is looking like a must for any fans of Lovecraft, X-Com, or bone deep terror, and is being developed by Sleepy Sentry.
