Maneater’s Evolutions act as loot pieces of sorts, increasing your shark’s power, abilities and granting its attacks different effects. As they can help specialize your shark, they’re valuable upgrades worth chasing after.
Here’s what you need to know to get up to speed with Maneater’s Evolutions, the sources from which you can obtain them, and how to upgrade them.
Maneater Evolutions
You can obtain Maneater Evolutions from three different sources: discovering every landmark in six of the game’s seven areas, defeating Apex Predators and killing named hunters.
Discovering the different landmarks is the more relaxed task of the three, simply requiring you to explore the map, ideally while using the Sonar Evolution that’s unlocked at the start of Maneater’s story.
Defeating Apex Predators involves one-on-one combat with unique foes that spawn into an area after you’ve progressed enough through its associated portion of the story.
Depending on the level difference between you, these fights can range from easy to very challenging.
Lastly, named hunters are another source of Maneater Evolutions. We’ve explained how to summon them in our guide on Threat and Infamy Rank.
Maneater Evolutions can be equipped in eight different slots spread across the shark’s body. Some of them increase damage or durability while others provide utility upgrades like the aforementioned sonar or an increase in gathered resources.
There’s no need to worry about starting off with most slots locked: they unlock automatically, as soon as you get your first Evolution for them.
Once you’ve unlocked one or more of Maneater’s Evolutions, you need to know that they can be changed and upgraded. To do so, you’ll need to swim or fast travel to your Grotto.
Once inside, press M and select the Evolutions section of the menu. Select the Evolution you want to change or upgrade. To replace an Evolution, simply left-click on a new one.
Upgrading Evolutions is done from the same section of the menu by pressing R. You’ll get a prompt highlighting the new benefits and resource cost.
Clicking on “Upgrade” will increase that Evolution’s tier. You’ll need to make sure you have enough of the required resource before attempting to go through with the upgrade.
If you don’t, it’s time to head out and eat stuff or find Nutrient Caches spread across the world. Lastly, every Maneater Evolution starts at Tier 1 and can be upgraded to Tier 5.
