As the Master of Magic reboot continues along in development, developer MuHa Games has chosen the title’s events as the focus of August’s developer diary, clarifying which ones are returning and how they will change.
Upon its announcement, the Master of Magic reboot was described as “extremely faithful” by publisher Slitherine and this does, indeed, seem to be the case. All of the event types that veteran players know from the original will be making a comeback in the reboot, although some of them are receiving slight alterations.
The first event type is tied to map locations like “fallen temples, ruins, or mysterious caves,” but also the Sorcery, Nature and Chaos power nodes, as well as the magic towers that facilitate travel between the two playable planes of Arcanus and Myrror. All of these locations will either see players battling their defenders or collecting loot, remaining mostly unchanged.
Master of Magic’s random events will, however, be a bit different than you might remember them. “In the remake, we want to give the wizard a chance to react to some of those events, instead of them being a simple notification of what occurred,” the developer explains.
“You will always have the option to simply accept the default result, but in some cases, you will be able to either alter or even avoid the consequences. This will typically be achieved by offering a payment via mana/gold or other means that an event may respond to.”
Plans are in place to also add an event pack, which increases the number of available encounters while allowing players to toggle them on or off.
The third and final event type in the Master of Magic reboot is based around traders and recruitment. Depending on your Fame level, you will occasionally be able to recruit units, heroes, or champions into your army but also secure new items for yourself.
August’s developer diary, which you’ll find linked above, concludes with a showcase of more Wizard art, revealing how some of the playable characters’ looks have changed over the years. In case you missed it, you can read up on the game’s shift to hexes and approach to modding tools in the first developer diary.
Master of Magic is set to launch at some point next year and is headed to PC.
