After many murmurings, rumours, and whispers the truth is finally out there. Metal Gear is back and it’s a remake of one of the most beloved entries that will bring the first post-Kojima Metal Gear (Metal Gear Survive was a practice run, okay?).
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is being remade for modern consoles as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. A trailer went out at the PlayStation Showcase that shows the game in all its newfangled glory.
The original game was first released on PlayStation 2. It chronologically takes place at the beginning of the Big Boss saga that would eventually lead to Solid Snake, the hero of the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid games. In Snake Eater, a young operative (Snake aka the future Big Boss) is betrayed by his mentor (The Boss) on a mission. and ends up trying to prevent an international incident during the Cold War. Snake Eater received critical acclaim and high sales, and is often mentioned at the high end of Best Games lists.
The last numbered entry in the series came in 2015 with the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Series head honcho Hideo Kojima parted ways with Konami not long after that and formed a new studio with other former Metal Gear developers where they made Death Stranding.
Konami is also bringing a new HD Collection featuring the original versions of Metal Gear Solid, Sons of Liberty, and Snake Eater to PS5 this Autumn.
