Metro 2033 Redux is now free on Steam and Xbox Store for the next 24 hours. As new players prepare to experience Artyom’s journey through the Moscow metro tunnels, some might be wondering whether or not it’s possible to have friends tagging along in multiplayer or co-op.
Metro 2033 Redux does emphasize the need to work together as a vital means for survival, so, from that perspective, co-op would be a great fit. Multiplayer would also be a great place to highlight the differences between its factions further.
Sadly, if you were hoping to spend the holiday break navigating dreary tunnels alongside a pal or more, we’ve got bad news. Metro 2033 is an entirely single-player experience that does not support multiplayer or co-op.
Artyom won’t always be alone, but you’ll have to make do with the comfort of AI companions watching your back and nasty mutated monstrosities wanting to take a bite out of it (or any other part they’re not particularly selective with their food).
Developer 4A Games has confirmed that it is “exploring multiplayer concepts” alongside Saber Interactive for the next Metro game.
While the lack of Metro 2033 Redux multiplayer and co-op will inevitably disappoint some, this shouldn’t keep you from braving its claustrophobic tunnels and participating in its story.
It’s one of the best first-person shooters out there while not being too shabby when it comes to its horror elements, either. The world it depicts is unforgettable and can warm your heart and send chills down your spine.
