Metro Exodus has been going through some tough times as of late, courtesy of publisher deciding to release the game as a timed Epic Games Store exclusive, and developers have not been taking the fallout well.
In a recent interview, one of 4A Games' employees spoke about what exactly went down when they found out that the publisher, Deep Silver, opted to forego Steam for a whole year, and it paints a clear picture of disbelief and disarray.
What do Metro Exodus Developers Think About Epic Games Store?
Speaking with Spiel Times, the source said that 4A Games was informed of the decision to move to Epic after E3 2018, though they were barred completely from speaking about it in public, likely using NDAs. This means that announcing the move was deliberately pushed back up until the release of Metro Exodus was very close.
According to the source, the reactions of devs at 4A were mixed: "Everybody was sure it was worth it," they said, talking about how developers felt about their work with Exodus. "It's more about reputation. And people are blaming us though we had nothing to do with it." This spurred some heated discussion and blame-shifting as of late, as noted before.
Spiel Times' source said that there was never any word about them dropping support for PC in the future, which corroborates what Deep Silver announced during the weekend, though they also mentioned that they do not feel as if the whole mess will affect Metro Exodus sales.
Hopefully, everything turns out well for 4A Games.
