MicroProse is back after a very long hiatus, and they’ve already got big plans for the future with their upcoming Warbirds 2020 release, an as-of-yet unrevealed combat flight simulator.
It’s worth noting that, while this is obviously not the exact same MicroProse that published XCOM, Civilization, and other high-profile strategy games from the ’90s, the company has been revived to continue that exact legacy.
It was sometime last year that Daving Lagettie, the founder of the popular TitanIM simulation software, bought the MicroProse IP. Now, the company is up and running again thanks to his efforts, and they’re working on the mysterious Warbird 2020 project.
While we know virtually nothing about this game just yet, the official Twitter account has been posting related artwork for some time now, and apparently there’s an exciting announcement in the works.
While the chances of MicroProse pushing out new XCOM and Civilization games are essentially nil, the company is clearly eager to carve out a new niche for themselves. This we can’t help but look forward to. With their goal being to produce high-quality strategy games and simulators, they seem to be on the right track to do so.
Stay tuned for more as we get it.
