Just before its business update today, Microsoft reportedly informed its staff that “Every screen is an Xbox,” fueling rumors that the company plans to release some of its games on other platforms, such as the PS5 or Switch.
These words come ahead of Microsoft’s business update later today at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 8pm GMT, where its rumoured that titles such as Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, and Hi-Fi Rush will be released on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
I'm Xbox! Yes, I'm Xbox!
During an internal town hall meeting, Xbox President Sarah Bond reportedly informed the team about its plans, according to sources cited by Inverse (Thanks VGC).
Bond went on to discuss Xbox’s strategy of existing on multiple devices like the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, and becoming the “number one cross-platform gaming company”.
Palworld was reportedly illustrated running on tablets, TV screens, monitors, and handheld devices, as an example of how Xbox could be on every screen. This is where some employees are said to have “joked” about the possibility of an Xbox handheld. Palworld is of course available on Xbox Game Pass.
The full details of this business update will become clear later this evening, when Bond, Phil Spencer, and Matt Booty host an Xbox Podcast to talk about the future of Xbox consoles and its exclusive games.
“We’re listening and we hear you,” Phil Spencer said to fans on X. “We’ve been planning a business update event for next week, where we look forward to sharing more details with you about our vision for the future of Xbox. Stay tuned.”
GameWatcher will be following the Podcast and will report what we discover after the talk has concluded.
There’s been a lot of speculation and rumours over the past couple of weeks, so we’re looking forward to learning more and seeing what the future of Xbox looks like.
