Modularity is what happens when, after long years of video game publishers trying to push modding community out of the picture, be it in more or less obvious ways, one of them says - enough is enough, modding matters.
Not surprisingly, Modularity is driven by ModDB and IndieDB: a video game publisher that not is not only interested in modding, but also embraces it completely as one of the core tenents of its business. Meeple Station, their first project, showcases this perfectly.
Modularity comes with an impressive set of architecture to boot. ModDB has recently introduced mod.io - a specialised modding API (think Steam Workshop) that Modularity is going to try and popularise as a tool for sharing and using mods in all of their titles.
The company is now inviting all interested parties to take a gander and join their ever-growing community of developers if they are so inclined, pointing out that "publishing doesn't need to be closed-off, slow or confusing."
Particularly enticing is the statement that Modularity does not "take IP ownership or creative control away from you, your game is your vision and we are here to assist with positioning and outreach." With such a powerful central statement, we are sure their repertoire of titles is going to increase by a fair amount in the near future.
In the meantime, be sure to check out Meeple Station, and best of luck to Modularity in all their ongoing and future endeavours!
