Former developers from EA and Ubisoft have teamed up to form a brand-new studio based in Stockholm.
Moon Rover Games is headed by the likes of Jamie Keen. Julien Wera, and Christofer Emgård, and brings experience from titles such as Battlefield, Far Cry, Mirror’s Edge, Crusader Kings, and The Division.
The studio is already hard at work on a cooperative shooter and sees the benefits of starting small in the current landscape. Technical Director Ben Keen explains why:
“The power of today’s commercial game engines and development tools allows for massive acceleration of early prototyping and development. which lets us find the fun in a very short time and then build large, ambitious games without the need for a hundred-person team. Moon Rover’s approach to technology is to focus on delivering great gameplay experiences first and foremost, and that is why we are using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5, but also developing our own tech only where it makes the most impact on the game.”
Jamie Keen, the Creative Director at Moon Rover Games is enthusiastic about creating something emergent and organic in the multiplayer space, saying “Our vision is to create engaging games set in immersive worlds that shape themselves around the players.”

We look forward to seeing just how this studio goes about creating a new coop experience in the future. In the meantime…
