Sci-fi 4x strategy game Mordfield Command has kicked off its latest playtest, giving eager players a chance to try their hand at ensuring humanity’s survival in the face of an overwhelming AI threat.
In the process, they can also provide feedback to publisher and developer Software Verde ahead of the game’s planned Q1 2025 launch.
Mordfield Command Playtest
Once considered one of humanity’s greatest achievements, AI has turned into a veritable eradicator in Mordfield Command’s world. As humanity dwindles, we take charge of its last remnants, who are putting up a desperate fight for survival against overwhelming odds.
Mastering genre staples such as resource management and base expansion as we keep an eye on the horizon for enemy movement is vital.
Constructing new buildings, upgrading them, and setting up “satellite cities” are only one part of the equation, as we’ll also need a strong army to fend off waves of robot opponents before taking the fight to them.
Mordfield Command boasts 25 unique combat units and keeps battles fresh thanks to the use of procedurally-generated maps.
Where its PvE missions pressure us through violent robot attacks, its timed-turn PvP mode significantly dials up the pressure in a different way.
“A single misclick or the wrong strategic decision can turn the tide of battle in seconds,” the developer notes in an emailed press release.
Anyone interested can request access to Mordfield Command’s playtest right from its Steam page.
