NetherRealm Studios has indicated that Mortal Kombat 1 will eventually support both Crossplay and Cross-progression, though these features are unlikely to be available at launch.
This confirmation was initially found in a FAQ provided by Warner Bros, but it appears to have been subsequently edited and removed. Wario64 managed to capture a snapshot of the details before they were promptly removed, which seemed to confirm the support for crossplay after launch.
Mortal Kombat 1 Crossplay
It’s plausible that Crossplay might not be available across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Switch when Mortal Kombat 1 launches on 19th September. It’s noteworthy that Mortal Kombat 11 was released with full crossplay support, so it’s reasonable to anticipate the same support here at some stage. This was notably termed “Krossplay”, a creative play on words, allowing access across all platforms.
“With the Krossplay feature enabled, a player can compete against others on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, or Xbox One consoles. Similarly, players on Xbox consoles (including Game Pass subscribers) and those on the Windows PC version available in the Microsoft Store can also face off against each other.”
Q: Will Mortal Kombat 1 have Cross-play and Cross-progression?
A: We plan to add cross-play or cross-progression support post-launch.
At least we know it’s going to come with Rollback Netcode.
