Rather than face you with set difficulty options, Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord lets you tweak individual aspects of your campaign, one of its vaguer options allowing you to enable death. But what exactly does it do?
Here’s everything you need to know about Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord’s enable death option and how it impacts your playthrough.
Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord Enable Death
Hovering over Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord’s enable death option shows the following text: “Choose if the heroes are able to die on the battlefield”.
This tells us that with the option enabled, your companions will be permanently discouraged from traveling alongside you after receiving a deadly blow in battle.
From what we can tell, this option also makes the player character and named NPCs belonging to Calradia’s several factions susceptible to kicking the bucket after being beaten to a pulp on the battlefield.
While, early on, bandits who capture you might be more inclined to keep you alive and sell you into slavery, Bannerlord can get quite ruthless later on.
You can make sure that death doesn’t also bring about the end of your campaign by having an heir, in which case you’ll resume playing as them.
It’s worth noting that dying of old age seems to happen regardless of whether you’ve enabled death or not.
