The team behind Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord’s The Old World mod has shared new details about its progress towards the next update, revealing that different damage types and magic system changes are on the way.
The Old World’s next update introduces five damage types – Physical, Magical, Fire, Holy, and Lightning – which will be available to both players and NPCs. Equipment can boost their potency or grant protection against any of them.
“These damage types can be found on weapons players can find or purchase, on combat spells and through buffs or debuffs. The potential for application elsewhere could allow us to even have regiments of renown with their own damage types, fitting with lore,” reads a post on Mod DB.
Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord’s The Old World mod is also refining its magic system, whose UI now resembles a spellbook. Magister NPCs teach new spells, offer quests, and give characters who cannot access magic by default a chance to do so via a test with a relatively low success chance.
In addition, Winds of Magic (mana) are now capped for players, only regenerating on the campaign map. Players can raise said cap by leveling up and investing points into their Intelligence stat.
“Players will also have the option to specialise into a lore or magic once they grow in power, such as the Lore of Fire, Lore of Heavens or Necromancy. These will lock out other lores for the player so the decision should represent a major decision during a magic focused playthrough, the developer notes in the blog post linked above.
In case you’re unaware, The Old World is a “complete singleplayer overhaul” mod for Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord, that lets you control a number of factions from Warhammer Fantasy.
A beta can be downloaded from Mod DB and might be a good way to spend time while we wait for Total War: Warhammer 3’s Mortal Empires campaign to arrive.
