Funcom has released a 20 minute video of Mutant Year Zero gameplay video, which shows off how Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden will mix the different gameplay styles of explorative RPG and XCOM-style squad combat.
The game has a release date of December 4th and you can check out the gameplay video below, which shows Selma the humanoid mutant, Bormin the mutated boar, and crossbow-wielding duck Dux taking to the Zone and getting into trouble.
The video is based on the Gamescom demo that press got hands-on with, but this is the first official release of gameplay with developer-commentary. Players can take their squad and explore the world freely, scavenging for items and finding lore, but enemies have a red circle around them which when hit triggers the XCOM-style combat.
Despite this, enemies don't necessarily see you when you enter the circle - it's not about sight, but it's like an "action circle". The first enemy they meet in the video they actually hide from, and catch by surprise. It's quite cool.
Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden is being worked on by The Bearded Ladies, and new team that comprises developers who worked on Hitman and Payday. The game's out in December.
