New World’s Marauders Faction is one of three key players in the upcoming MMORPG’s territory control game. You’ll be asked to join one of your choosing relatively early in the main quest and without being given a ton of detail about how they differ from each other.
Whether you pick the Marauders Faction or any of the other two, it’s worth knowing that this is one of the major choices you’ll make in New World. Although you get a free chance to switch factions after your initial pick, after that fact, you’ll only be able to choose another one every 120 days. You also won’t be able to move to the faction that owns the most territory, likely in a move to avoid imbalance.
The main difference between New World’s Marauders Faction, the Syndicate, and Covenant lies in the color of their gear and the philosophy attributed to them by in-game lore. The Marauders don green armor and have a fairly no-nonsense approach to things.
“Let’s keep this short. We’re the Marauders. We don’t make fancy speeches. We don’t need preachy causes. The only thing we need is ourselves,” reads its in-game manifesto.
“The island is stuffed with opportunities, for people of ambition. People who take what they want. Riches, power, respect.”
Their preoccupations are considerably more worldly when compared to the other two factions. The lore surrounding the factions, at least heading into the mid-game, remains thin and they’re really just banners under which players rally when seeking to participate in territory control and PvP.
Choosing the Marauder Faction grants you access to its dedicated chat channel, allows you to join companies (or guilds) that also fight for the green, but also stops you from joining companies (or guilds) belonging to other factions You’ll find a representative in each settlement.
Each representative lets you pick between six faction missions. The three on the top row are PvE-focused, granting reputation and tokens that you can spend on faction-specific gear and rewards.
The ones at the bottom require you to enable PvP and, aside from the reputation and tokens earned, also increase the Marauders’ influence in a territory. This, in turn, helps defend territories you own and get those of the enemy closer to a state of conflict, which enables a company belonging to your faction to declare war.
Navigating the five available reputation ranks – Soldier, Gladiator, Ravager, Destroyer, and Commander, – grants access to increasingly more powerful consumables and gear in your faction’s colors. The green color of the armor alone will make it clear that you represent the Marauders when engaging in New World’s PvE and PvP activities and it also comes in three different variants that cater to different builds.
Naturally, being part of the Marauders also means that you can freely attack Syndicate and Covenant players when exploring the world, as far as both you and them have toggled on PvP. That’s what we currently know about New World’s Marauders faction and how it differs from the others. For more on the MMORPG, we also have guides on map size and unlocking crafting recipes.
