Karnage Chronicles VR developer Nordic Trolls has revealed its next project. A survival game with a fantastical twist.
Under a Rock is a procedural survival game set in the 19th Century. After crashing your hot-air balloon, you discover a primitive world where Neanderthals still exist, the wildlife is bigger than you’d expect, and curses are a real threat (insert joke about this describing your town/city/country here).
Stranded in this mysterious land, your objective is to find an escape route while uncovering the fate of a previous party that found themselves in the same predicament. Additionally, when you eventually discover a way back, it would be beneficial to bring along as many exotic treasures as possible!
In each player’s game, a procedurally generated 64 km² world awaits, complete with distinct biomes, bodies of water, and other features unique to your world. If you wish to join a friend’s world using your current character, you can do so effortlessly. Jumping between worlds will have no adverse consequences for your character.
Nordic Trolls states that it is trying to create a dynamic AI engine for Under a Rock built using Unreal Engine 5. This will hopefully allow for a more organic balance in the game world, creating unscripted stories and skirmishes alike.
You can wishlist the game on Steam ahead of its as-yet-unknown Early Access release. It’s also in development for the Xbox Series and PlayStation 5.
