Nvidia is about to release drivers with full Reshade support just next week, on October 29. For those who don’t know what Reshade is, it’s a tool that allows for the injection of advanced post-processing techniques to games that may not support them by default.
Whether it’s a superior anti-aliasing solution or full implementation of improved ambient occlusion, Reshade offers it all, and though it’s quite popular already, its fiddly nature could easily drive users away from installing it. Nvidia may well change this with their new drivers.
The integration of Reshade with the standard Nvidia driver overlay is set to release alongside the company’s new GTX 1660 SUPER graphics processor, and the company claims that this will allow players to make use of hundreds of different image filters and post-processing options.
A few things are still in the air, mind. For example, there’s been no word on whether previous Reshade users will be able to use their old injectors, and we don’t know anything about compatibility. Certain games outright refuse to use Nvidia’s default post-processing options, which might mean Reshade will stay a fringe solution in those cases.
We don’t know whether the full extent of Reshade options will be available, either. This includes stuff like sharpening filters, SMAA, forced screen-space reflections, and even ray-tracing, in extreme cases. Since it’s just a few days’ worth of waiting, it shouldn’t be too big of a problem to wait and see, if nothing else.
