Path of Exile 2 launches with 12 character classes to choose from, but only one of them, the Druid fulfills the fantasy of a potent spellcaster who’s also able to shapeshift and bring down the unbridled force of several wild beasts upon its enemies.
PoE 2’s Druid class relies on a combination of strength and intelligence to fuel its attacks. On the one hand, nature-based spells allow characters to tap into the power of nature and unleash potent elemental attacks. At the press of a button, they can also seamlessly shapeshift into a chosen wild beast form, delivering a more personal kind of punishment.
Path of Exile 2 Druid Class
The slowest wild beast form, but one who’s able to dish out lots of damage, is that of a Bear who, upon striking enemies with attacks like Maul, gains rage.
The resource is tracked by glowing runes embedded into the back of the beast, increasing its damage with each swing.
Bear attacks like Rampage consume rage, providing a tool that both deals with weaker enemies and allows the Druid to reposition as he charges across the battlefield.
The beast can also use Furious Slam, an attack that brings utility to the table, stunning enemies it hits. On its own, the attack takes a short while to cast, but this can be drastically reduced by using it shortly after using a Maul.
This indicates that there is a bit of finesse involved in using certain attacks based on their animations, which is an interesting touch.
Path of Exile 2’s Druid class also has access to Meta Gem skills like Ferocious Roar, which allows you to socket other skills into them, chaining various effects into devastating combos.
In addition, PoE2’s Druids can also dodge roll out of the way while in Bear form, seamlessly transforming into their human form in the process.
While in human form, the class can use spells like Lightning Storm to create a hazardous area that deals lightning damage to foes inside it while also shocking them and increasing the damage they receive from all sources.
The visually impressive Tornado can then be used to separate monsters and hold them in place while you deal with their friends or prepare follow-up attacks.
Aside from a suite of spells, Path of Exile 2’s Druid class can also summon wolf companions while in its human form.
They fulfill a dual role, drawing enemy attention and howling when they enter the battlefield. The latter debuffs enemies, making them more vulnerable to critical strikes for a short while.
If fire is more your flavor of destruction, the Volcano spell spews out fiery projectiles in a small area around it. Using the Bear form’s Furious Slam while near the Volcano increases the number of projectiles it spawns.
Since different weapons can use different passive skills in the sequel, the Bear form can also do the same, throwing some extra flexibility into the mix.
The video embedded below showcases a set of potential combos that may or may not change in the lead-up to launch.
However, even with just one of its wild beast forms revealed, PoE 2’s Druid class already sounds like a versatile fighter that’s very much worth giving a shot when the title finally releases.
That is what we know so far about the Path of Exile 2’s Druid class. More details will likely be shared over the coming months, but we’re also keeping our fingers crossed that it will be playable during the closed beta starting in June 2024.
