Phantasy Star Online 2 has been seeing issues since its western launch last month. Many players are reporting crippling lag when in the game lobby, which bleeds over and affects other programs on their PCs. We’re going to look at this lobby lag, and see if the community has any solutions to offer.
There does seem to have been reported successes with a workaround that skips the game launcher causing the majority of the lag by allowing players to boot directly into the game.

The solution suggests downloading the WinAero Tweaker for less technically minded people and following these few basic steps before moving on to the actual fix itself.
- If you scroll down to the Context Menu and select Take Ownership you can tick the box that says Add Take Ownership context menu to files and folders.
- Go to C:\Program Files\ModifiableWindowsApps and by right clocking on pso2_bin you can select Take Ownership. This will cause a command prompt to appear and go through the game files, transferring total ownership to the user.
</ul>
This next stage is the actual fix and if you know how to claim ownership through other means, you can skip the first step and start here.
- Find the pso2_bin in the same location listed above and inside, rename the pso2launcher.exe to something else. This renaming disables the executable for the game but keeps it in case you ever need to go back.
- You then want to make a copy of pso2.exe and rename the copy to pso2launcher.exe. This makes the shortcut launch directly into the game, bypassing the lag inducing launcher.
We hope this solution by Reddit user Krisan-Thyme works for you, but if not you can also try installing the PSO2 Tweaker that is starting to see support for the NA version of the game but has long been used in the JP server to fix various game issues.
