Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now on PC, so hopefully everyone is enjoying the game after waiting a year to get it - but some are already struggling with crashes and are unable to play the game. Is there a Red Dead Redemption 2 crash fix?
One of the biggest problems encountered by players is simply being unable to get into the game. They start Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, and then while loading the message 'Rockstar Game Launcher exited unexpectedly' appears on screen - and the game crashes. But is there a fix?
Rockstar Game Launcher exited unexpectedly fix?
The most common problem with the Red Dead Redemption 2 PC version right now is a full crash to desktop, along with the message 'Rockstar Game Launcher exited unexpectedly' - which doesn't really explain or help matters. This usually happens shortly after loading the game, during the first loading screen, and happens every time - alternatively, it can also happen before the game even has a chance to load!
All this means is players affected by it are unable to play the game they just bought, which is infuriating! But is there a fix? There are three possible solutions to this error, which seems to be unique to Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC. These fixes are:
- Disable your anti-virus software - this is the most common solution. We had this problem too and disabling our AV solved the problem, so hopefully it'll work too. You can also try telling your AV software to exempt the Rockstar Games folder with RDR2 in. However, it only seems to help players who get the error message before the game even starts - those experiencing a game crash after a few seconds are out of luck.
- Uninstall and redownload the game - yes, this one isn't ideal as RDR2 is such a massive game, but players have reported that this solved their problem. The issue may be with encryption, or a fault in the download. However, again, this didn't work for everyone.
- Update your graphics drivers - yes, this old chestnut. However, a few players have reported that updating their graphics card drivers actually helped fixed the problem, so definitely worth a go.
</ul>
As you can see if these options aren't working for you, there's sadly no single fix for this RDR2 PC crash issue right now. Anyone who gets the message before the game starts has some hope, but if the game crashes in the loading screen? You may have to wait for a fix from Rockstar.
