When will Red Dead Redemption 2 be released for the PC? Rockstar Games are known for putting out new games rarely, but when they do release something, it almost always becomes a massive hit. Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to be its next release, coming in five years after Grand Theft Auto V was launched on the seventh generation consoles. This was later released on the PC, so could we see Red Dead Redemption 2 PC coming after the console versions?
While it's clear that the vocal elements of the fandom are hoping for a PC port, with petitions having popped up and this being a hotly discussed topic, the same amount of interest was displayed towards the previous installment in the series, Red Dead Redemption, when it was released back in 2010. Unfortunately, all the asking, begging and petition signing in the 8 years since then wasn't enough to get Rockstar to release a PC port of it. Currently, there does exist a way to play it on a PC officially without an emulator, but that too is less than ideal - streaming it on PlayStation Now.
Rockstar has been pretty quiet on Red Dead Redemption 2 recently, since it wasn't at E3 2018 as they don't tend to attend the popular trade show, but a recent slip from a developer on LinkedIn (Spotted by VG247) gives us a shred of hope that it might actually be coming to the PC in the future.
The developer is remaining anonymous, but the listing suggests that they previously worked as a programmer on Grand Theft Auto V and L.A. Noire, and have since moved on to work on Red Dead Redemption 2. The important part is that the listing mentions the platforms for Red Dead Redemption 2 and lists the PC alongside the PS4 and Xbox One. At first glance we thought that perhaps it was just a copy/paste error on his part, but GTA V and L.A. Noire all have different platform listings.
If you look at the Grand Theft Auto V PC release, you'll remember that Rockstar didn't release the PC version until the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions came out, so there's a chance that the company plans to release the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 when they do an enhanced version for future consoles, like the PlayStation 5 or the next Xbox code named Project Scarlett. If this is what they plan to do, we may not see a PC release until 2020.
We've asked Rockstar to comment on multiple occasions about a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2, but as expected the studio won't comment about additional platforms at this time. Rockstar will let us know if it's ready to start talking about a possible PC version, but there's a good chance that like Red Dead Redemption, the second release will never hit the PC. We certainly hope that isn't the case, because if there's one console exclusive that we would love to see on the PC, it's the Red Dead Redemption games.
