Helsinki-based development studio Redhill Games has officially opened its gates, a press release revealed today. The studio aims to focus on “creating high-quality titles targeting underserved market segments in the gaming industry.”.
It is led by people who’ve earned their stripes working on AAA projects for Remedy Enertainment and Wargaming, the latter being known for its free-to-play titles that follow a games-as-a-service model, such as World Of Tanks. Redhill Games’ development team is comprised of “hand-picked from around the world from companies like Guerrilla Games, Starbreeze, Next Games and more.”.
“I’ve had the joy of working with so many wonderfully talented people since beginning in games in 1999. Redhill Games represents the best of the best from all my years of experience, bringing together some of the industry’s top professionals from various disciplines for a new adventure,” Redhill Games CEO Matias Myllyrinne said. “These are people who have collaborated closely before, and I’m confident our best games are still ahead of us.”, he continued.
Redhill Games’ development team will mainly focus on free-to-play tactical shooters, as well as ongoing games-as-a-service titles. While the games-as-a-service model is becoming increasingly popular, especially among AAA publishers, tactical shooters are part of a niche that could become more visible as new blood steps in to develop that type of games.
“The leadership team has rallied around the principles of cooperative and social play, fair monetization models and data-driven development.”, the press release reads. Redhill Games’ current goals revolve around completing its team and delivering “an engaging proof of concept” going into 2019.
