There's a lot of pressure on Capcom to make Resident Evil 2 Remake work, so it's no wonder that they're banking quite a bit on getting it right from the get-go. Though much has already been said about the core features of the Remake and its story, we've got more stuff to share as well.
Namely, Capcom have given out some interesting info in their latest interview with a Japanese video game magazine Dengeki Online, and we've collected all the best bits in this here piece for your reading pleasure.
Resident Evil 2 Remake Story Changes
Capcom have worked hard to make the story of RE2R more dramatic, and they have shuffled some events around to achieve the desired result. Expect some drastic alterations, with different character interactions, a slightly changed timeline, and some additional fluff added along the way.
Resident Evil 2 Remake - Sub Weapons
The Remake will also feature a new weapon system, with 'main' and 'sub' weapons to equip. In essence, your main weapons will be firearms, such as handguns, shotguns, sub-machine guns and the like, while the subcategory will refer to knives, explosives, and similar items.
Resident Evil 2 Remake - Gunpowder Returns
The gunpowder mechanics make a return from Resident Evil 3/Resident Evil 7, and we'll have to combine different sorts of gunpowder to get different types of cartridges for our firearms. For example, combining two items of weaker gunpowder will get us handgun bullets, while combining an item of weaker gunpowder with that of stronger, makes for a shotgun shell.
Resident Evil 2 Remake - Blue and Red Herbs
Herb combos will be making a return as well, and RE2R will have three different kinds: green, red, and blue. While veterans will know that green herbs heal, whereas red ones increase the potency of green herbs, the blue ones will serve as a remedy to poisons.
Resident Evil 2 Remake - Crimson Heads
No Crimson Heads in this release - the undead will now stay dead. After you kill them again, that is.
Resident Evil 2 Remake - Soundtrack Details
The Remake will feature a reworked version of the original Resident Evil 2 soundtrack, though it is said to function differently than it did back in the day. In the original, the music would change upon moving from one room to another, or during key events, while the Remake will have soundtrack change pace/melody in the middle of gameplay, according to what's happening on-screen.
