The track record for animated Resident Evil movies has been somewhat inconsistent, but they’ve at least provided fans with familiar characters exploring new adventures, rather than being overshadowed by new characters or suffering from poor casting choices. Resident Evil: Death Island, however, is increasingly showing promise.
The latest trailer for this fourth animated film highlights an impressive lineup of iconic Resident Evil characters. Jill, Leon, Claire, Chris, and Rebecca all make appearances, and the trailer offers a thrilling glimpse of them fighting side by side. This movie marks the first canonical collaboration between series favorites Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine in any Resident Evil media, as well as the long-awaited reunion of siblings Chris and Claire Redfield.
Plot-wise, the events of Death Island are sandwiched between Resident Evil 6 and 7. The group starts out on different missions that eventually intertwine with Leon on a rescue attempt and Chris investigating another zombie outbreak. There’s an aquatic horror vibe in there so hopefully we see some nasties inspired by Resident Evil Revelations in there.
The film will arrive in Japan on July 7, with an as-yet-undetermined worldwide release also planned.
