Publisher Electronic Arts today announced the name of Markus Lehto’s new studio, Ridgeline Games, confirming that it is working on a narrative campaign set in the Battlefield universe.
Halo co-creator Markus Lehto joined the team earlier this year as Electronic Arts prepared the grounds for greatly expanding the reach of the Battlefield franchise. Several studios worked on the divisive latest mainline entry and will handle different Battlefield projects going forwards.
While Ridgeline Games will focus on creating a narrative campaign, Dice “will use its expertise to continue developing Battlefield’s one-of-a-kind multiplayer suite,” according to the publisher.
Ripple Effect, responsible for Battlefield 2042’s Portal mode, “is focused on creating an entirely new Battlefield experience that will complement and build upon the series’ foundations.”
Electronic Arts’ future plans for the franchise also led to a significant shift in leadership shortly after Battlefield 2042’s rocky launch, which saw key figures leaving and being replaced.
Among them, Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella stepped in as the head of the Battlefield franchise.
Today, the publisher also shared that Creative Director Lars Gustavsson “has decided he is ready for a new adventure,” after working on the franchise since its inception.
It does certainly sound like Battlefield is entering a new era. After two mainline entries that have stumbled in terms of delivering on their live service promises, perhaps Ridgeline Games’ narrative campaign is just what we need.
