Developer Hopoo Games today revealed new details about Risk of Rain 2’s upcoming 1.0 update alongside changes to its roadmap.
Risk of Rain 2’s 1.0 update will miss its Spring release date, its roadmap now pointing at August as its release window.
Risk of Rain 2 1.0 Update and Roadmap
“To be explicit: the timing has not been altered because of COVID-19 - we’re incredibly lucky in that our business was mostly unaffected. The timing has changed because we’re expanding the scope of the 1.0 Update”, developer Hopoo Games wrote in the Steam post revealing the changes.
Risk of Rain 2’s 1.0 update is set to introduce a new survivor, the final stage and boss, new items, equipment and other changes, including a new server browser.
“Quickplay served an important function at launch, especially because we didn’t know how popular the game may become - but the QP featureset is barebones. Not only that, but the game has evolved past needing to just find a match - you need to find the right match. We think a built-in Server Browser (and hosting) will still allow you to connect and find other players easily while providing a lot of the features and choices you want to make before connecting to a game.”, the announcement post reads.
Risk of Rain 2 will continue to not feature host migration, however, the developer hopes that dedicated servers will reduce the number of people leaving in-progress games because of game settings or ping-related issues.
Risk of Rain 2 is available now in Steam Early Access for the price of 17,99€ or your regional equivalent.
