Shemue 3 was never formally and officially announced to be coming out on Xbox One, though a recent revelation did give some hope for fans of the franchise who are, for this or that reason, using only Microsoft's console this generation.
After an Xbox One logo asset was found in the source code of Shenmue 3's pre-order page, people got their hopes up by a fair bit. Sadly, Deep Silver has now outright refuted those suggestions.
Is Shenmue 3 coming to Xbox One?
According to Deep Silver themselves, who are publishing Shenmue 3, the game is not slated for an Xbox One launch at all. While the source code asset did offer an inkling of a hope, it doesn't seem like much will come of them at all.
With the publisher outright putting those hopes to rest, there's really no reason to hold out for Shenmue 3 on Xbox One any time soon. The reasoning for this hasn't been explained, mind, and Deep Silver hasn't offered an explanation as to the logo found in their website's source code, but it may well simply be leftover code from some other preorder page that they've reappropriated for Shenmue 3.
Odd, to be sure, as Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 did get released on Xbox One, but we'll see how the situation develops over the coming months and years.
