Shortest Trip to Earth is an upcoming roguelike spaceship simulator that features a particular focus on interstellar exploration, vessel management, and close-quarters tactical combat developed by Interstellar Fate, and published by Iceberg Interactive.
We've known for a while now that the developers are planning to first have the game come out via Early Access, but there was no word on when, exactly, is that going to be. Until now, that is.
Shortest Trip to Earth will release on 9th of October in a sort of an alpha/beta state for the truly dedicated players to try out, and so that they can offer as much feedback as possible to the developers, who will then be able to act on it and make their game the best it can be.
Drawing inspiration from video game classics as are Star Control II and FTL, but also from various other sci-fi media such as Firefly and Cowboy Bebop, Shortest Trip to Earth promises a wide variety of randomly generated player-driven stories that unravel organically, in accordance to gameplay.
Developers have already spent over four years of time working on Shortest Trip to Earth, and the Early Access build is said to contain the majority of game's core features, such as planetary exploration, vessel management, various combat modules, and more. Lots to be excited about, in any case.
