Skull and Bones may revolve around pirates, ships, and plunder, but spend enough time in its world and you’ll get to know its animals and which of them you can have as pets.
Skull and Bones’ animals and pets likely serve distinct purposes. The former is confirmed to play a role in the game’s crafting system, while the latter possibly act as cosmetic additions to your ship.

It sort of makes sense, if you think about it, too. A cat is more likely to be furry, cute, possibly condescending, yet considerably less prone to bite your head off than, say, a crocodile.
The latter would likely also have trouble fitting on board your ship, at least until you gain enough infamy to afford bigger variants.
As mentioned above, the Skull and Bones world has plenty of wildlife that you’ll hunt down and skin, to obtain valuable resources needed for crafting.
Ubisoft hasn’t shared a ton of details about the system, but the game’s showcase from July 2022 unveiled three of the animals we’ll encounter:

- Hippopotamus
- Crocodile
- Shark
Although pets weren’t expressly mentioned during the lengthy showcase, looking closely at gameplay footage – particularly during sequences when you steer your ship in first-person – lets you spot a cat and a lemur that are quite comfortable hanging out next to the player character.
They behave slightly differently, too. The cat faces away from the front of your ship – possibly in an effort to tell foes just how little it thinks of them – while the lemur is fairly alert, constantly looking around.

In September 2022, the developer clarified that you’ll discover pets as you progress through the game, but can also “discover vanity sets for them as you progress, and through our store.”
This is how Skull and Bones animals and pets list looks at the moment, but there’s a good chance that plenty more creatures will be featured in the full game when it launches this November.
