Publisher Slitherine today announced that it has partnered with developer Battlefront to bring modern war sim Combat Mission Shock Force 2 to Steam, its own Matrix Games Store and other digital stores.
Players will be able to purchase Combat Mission Shock Force 2 and all its DLC on Steam and other storefronts starting with Tuesday, August 25.
Developer Battlefront has also confirmed that Shock Force 2 is only the first game in the Combat Mission family to make its way to Steam and other stores as part of its partnership with Slitherine, others being set to “follow over time”. The developer’s store will remain unchanged while beginning to offer periodic sales to “stay in synch with a coordinated sales strategy”.
Slitherine and Battlefront Bring Combat Mission Shock Force 2 to Steam
“We are genuinely proud and excited to bring Combat Mission Shock Force 2 to a brand-new audience” said Slitherine Marketing Director Marco A. Minoli. “Battlefront’s unrivaled modern era 3D wargame will now be available to a much broader player base. Our community at Matrix Games forms the backbone of online wargaming. Marketing and distributing a modern classic like Combat Mission is a sign of how relevant our presence in the market has become.”
To anyone unaware, Combat Mission Shock Force 2 puts players in control of a NATO force taking part in a hypothetical Syrian conflict set in the modern day.
Missions can be played either in real-time or through the game’s WeGo hybrid turn-based system that lets each player plan 60 seconds’ worth of combat, then watch it unfold.
In its push for realism, Combat Mission Shock Force 2 does not make use of hitpoints while its AI “models the psychological state and inherent qualities of every soldier on the battlefield”.
The title will arrive on Steam with both a singleplayer campaign and multiplayer support that includes options for hotseat and play-by-email matches.
