STALKER 2 is, more-or-less, one of the unicorn games of this generation. The previous will-it-won't-it situation that the title was stuck in was somewhat resolved when the developer GSC Game World confirmed that they did begin the development anew, but we still know precious little about it.
A recent interview that was translated from Russian on Reddit, however, does tell us a bit more about the upcoming project. Now we know, for example, that the new STALKER 2 is not related to the canceled 2012 game.
While said interview has been mostly a full non-commital across the board, we did manage to get out some specks of new info from the discussion. For example, when asked whether the new game was the result of the continued development of the canceled 2012 STALKER 2, GSC Game World said that: "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is a new project in which we use all the best ideas that our company has." Why this is the case we do not know, but it certainly is interesting.
Furthermore, GSC now has a substantially larger team of people working on STALKER 2 than was the case with any of their previous STALKER releases, which is fairly promising. GSC is also financing the project themselves - no publisher attached to the project so far.
Finally, when asked whether STALKER 2 will feature COOP, GSC said that " (they) have never talked about it, so we can’t confirm or deny it."
Stay tuned for more info on STALKER 2 as we get it, drip-fed as it might be!
