Steam is going to undergo some substantial changes in 2019 - as was to be expected, seeing as how Epic are going at it like there's no tomorrow - but after reviewing the list, it's hard for us not to ask ourselves: is Valve doing enough?
Steam 2019 changes include various changes and newfangled features big and small, not least of which is the fact that Steam will finally be launching in China, improvements to the Store machine-learning algorithms, and a revamped Steam Library UI.
Truth be told, the stuff that Valve is working on for Steam is rather exciting when taken at face value. Some of the more interesting features include a partnership with Perfect World in order to officially bring Steam to China at long last, and the introduction of CS: GO matchmaking tech to all games on Steam. Those are going to be major game-changers in their own right.
Steam Upcoming 2019 Changes and Features
-improved Store discoverability
-Steam China
-revamped Steam Library
-new Events system
-Steam TV expansion
-updates to Steam Chat on mobile apps
-introduction of Steam Trust (advanced matchmaking tech)
-introduction of the Steam PC Cafe programme
Now, some of these will only be interesting to niche markets. The Steam PC Cafe programme is going to be a valuable addition to - well - gaming cafes and little else, but, for example, a new Library UI is well overdue at this point.
Are these changes enough to weather the storm that is Epic Games Store, however? Only time will tell.
