The Forge is a key location in STORY OF SEASONS: Friends of Mineral Town, perhaps not as frequented as the General Store but certainly above most others. It is run by Saibara and is where you will find his grandson and apprentice Gray. The Forge shop is open between 10am and 4pm everyday apart from Thursday’s and when festivals are currently ongoing.
If you make friends with Saibara you will gain access to the building outside of normal working hours, but won’t be able to access the store during these times. Nonetheless, if you have something going on with Gray, the extra access makes fitting him into your day much easier.
The Forge has three main purposes. First you can buy the Brush, Milker, and Clippers - livestock tools you don’t have at the game’s start. These are one time purchases and are non-upgradeable which brings us to the second and probably most important role of the Forge - upgrades.
Upgrades
Upgrades improve your tools to allow for faster usability or increased functionality. These upgrades take 1 ore and a payment of coin to complete. With each tier upgrade, the cost goes up and needed ore changes. Until Tier 6, each upgrade takes 1 day, with the sixth taking 3. Note that each upgrade requires experience points in addition to the material cost which is gained through tool use.
- Copper - 10% XP - Tier 2 - 1000G
- Silver - 28% XP - Tier 3 - 2000G
- Golden - 55% XP - Tier 4 - 3000G
- Mithril - 100% XP - Tier 5 - 5000G
- Mythic - Requires all Blessed Tools - Tier 6 - 50,000G
Each level of upgrade adds something to the tool in the form of charge levels that are used by holding the use tool button until it reaches the level you need. Once all tools have reached tier 5 (mithril), you unlock Cursed Tools, which are covered at the end of the article.
- Sickle - The sickle is used to cut weeds and harvest grass for animal fodder. Each charge level increases the range of the cut.
- Hoe - The hoe has two jobs, to till your farm to grow crops, and to search the mine floors for ladders and loot. Charge levels increase range but this cannot be used in the mines.
- Axe - The axe is used to turn branches and stumps into Lumber used for upgrading your house. At charge level 5 (mithril) you have the ability to chop all stumps.
- Hammer - The Hammer breaks rocks and turns them into Material Stone for house upgrades. At charge level 5 (mithril) you have the ability to smash all rocks and boulders. The Hammer is also used to break the rocks in the mines, but charge levels are disabled inside.
- Watering Can - Used for watering your crops. Can be filled at any water source. Charge levels increase the coverage of your watering and the water capacity of the can. These upgrades are the biggest time savings you can get and well worth prioritising over others.
- Fishing Rod - Once you've acquired the Fishing Rod you can upgrade it to let you to catch larger fish.
Commissions
The third purpose of the Forge is commissions. These make use of Orichalcum and Adamantite to make specific items. The Orichalcum is used to make jewellery that can be given as gifts, while the Adamantite is used for farm upgrades in the form of Makers. The Jewellery takes 1 day and 1000G, and can be made as many times as you like. The Makers are unique items that take 5 days and 20,000G to complete, but add a new revenue source to your farm.
- Mayonnaise Maker - Makes Mayonnaise out of chicken eggs.
- Cheese Maker - Makes Cheese out of Milk.
- Yarn Maker - Can be built for the Coop and the Barn.
- Butter Maker - Makes Butter out of Milk.
Cursed Tools
Cursed Tools can be found in the Lake Mine during winter once all base tools have been upgraded to Tier 5 (mithril). These tools are significantly better than your normal tools but suffer a large stamina penalty until Blessed by fulfilling the requirements below. Note that once equipped, a Cursed Tool cannot be unequipped until Blessed.
Each tool has a mine floor to find, and individual requirements for Blessing:
- Sickle - Floor 79 - Equipped for 5 days.
- Hoe - Floor 79 - Blessed by Carter at the church 5 times.
- Axe - Floor 79 - Used 50 times (can just swing at nothing).
- Hammer - Floor 59 - Equipped for 5 days.
- Watering Can - Floor 69 - Blessed by Carter at the church 5 times.
- Fishing Rod - Floor 29 - Used 50 times (can just cast at nothing).
Finding and blessing all Cursed Tools then unlocks the ability to find Mythic Ore in the Spring Mine that can be used for the final upgrade or sold for 20,000G each. Mythic ore has a very low drop chance and appears only on the specific floors of 60, 102, 123, 152, 155, 171, 190, 202, 222, and the final 5 floors of 250-255.
