Of all the things you didn't expect to see today, we're betting Streets of Rage 4 was pretty close to the top of that list. Well, not only have we got an announcement trailer to share, but there's also some intense gameplay peppered about as well.
Developed by Lizardcube, the people behind Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, Streets of Rage 4 is planned to send us spiralling back into the ancient 90s with phenomenal audiovisual design and decidedly badass protagonists.
Streets of Rage 4 is going to feature fully hand-drawn graphics that are reminiscent of the series' origins, while also maintaining a distinct sense of style and atmosphere that's not found often in modern video games.
Though it's been a fair while since the last proper Streets of Rage release - Streets of Rate 3 came out in 1998, though it was also re-released on Steam in 2012 - there's no shortage of hype surrounding the classic series, and the developers may just have hit a motherlode with this particular announcement.
There's very little that we know about Streets of Rage 4 as it stands, short of the fact that it will support both singleplayer and multiplayer modes, and that Lizardcube are dedicated to the project they've taken up.
