Slipgate Ironworlds and 3D Realms have united to try and revive the classic RTS genre in a new and exciting way with Tempest Rising, which was announced at THQ Nordic’s Digital Showcase.
It’s very much been poured into the Command & Conquer mold, with warring factions battling for a precious resource. Set in a world where Nuclear war has ravaged much of the planet, but created a potential new energy source in the titular Tempest that’s rising from the ground around the globe. The remaining scraps of humanity will go to war in order to be king of the new world.
Gameplay was shown where factions were going at it on an icy tundra, with an attack on a fortified base. All action is covered by a gravelly-voiced announcer who sounds in keeping with 3D Realms.
Slipgate has said it will be wearing its influences on its sleeve, but going for new ideas as well, hopefully bringing about a hearty successful fusion of old and new.
Tempest Rising is due to invade PC sometime in 2023.
