The Council is, according to our review of its very first episode, a fascinating and innovative take on the familiar tropes of narrative adventure games, adding lots of curious features, such as RPG class mechanics and whatnot.
However, it being an episodic adventure game, The Council has seemingly flown under the radar for most. This should be alleviated, hopefully, with the release of its fifth and final episode: Checkmate.
Developers promise for The Council: Checkmate to bring all of our decisions, mistakes, victories, and losses to head as the story unravels like never before. Since each playthrough is highly dependent not only on the choices we've made, but also on how our version of the protagonist, Louis, has chosen to spend his hard-earned XP, there's likely lots to go through.
While there's no information what, exactly, should we expect from the season finale, it is said that it is designed to decisively seal the deal: "Louis de Richet must take the final steps on deciding his path – and the fate of the world!"
The Council: Checkmate is set to come out early next month, on the 4th of December, and if you're looking for a juicy new mystery game to romp through, and one that's got plenty of replay value at that, look no further than The Council, as it is now available via Steam at a 40% off for the entire season!
