Nintendo has shared a new gameplay video for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, giving us a better look at the upcoming title’s new features, including Sky Islands and new abilities for Link.
Like its predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sets players loose across an open world which they can freely explore, but Hyrule is different than the last time we saw it. One easily noticeable change comes in the shape of Sky Islands, explorable landmasses waiting up in the sky.

One method of reaching them involves heading to the locations of rocks that fall from these landmasses and using Link’s new Recall ability to rewind time, making the rock retrace its path back up.
Tears of the Kingdom’s Sky Islands can play host to the new Construct enemies. To more effectively fight them and other foes, Link can now use his Fuse ability to create makeshift weapons from different objects.
In the video below, you can see him creating a hammer from a branch and a boulder, as well as a longer spear-type weapon by fusing together a long stick and a pitchfork.
This should, hopefully, not just open up new options as far as your arsenal goes, but also make it easier to deal with the weapons’ decaying durability.
In addition, Fuse also has other uses, allowing you to craft homing arrows or enhance your shield to release a cloud of smoke when struck, making enemies lose track of you.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom also introduces the new Ultrahand ability, letting you create makeshift rafts of different shapes by attaching logs and fans to each other.
The gameplay video explores these new tools and others quite in-depth, making it well worth watching if the title happens to be on your radar.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is slated to release on May 12, 2023 and headed to the Nintendo Switch.
A special edition of the console’s OLED model dedicated to the game will go on sale starting on April 28, 2023.
