Starcraft can be downloaded and played for free without having to resort to drastic measures, if you were unaware. Available close to a year now, Starcraft also comes with Brood War, its much-touted expansion pack.
If you, too, would like to play Starcraft for free and see just why is it that this RTS was as popular as it was back then, practically kick-starting eSports as such, follow the guide we've assembled below.
How to Play StarCraft for Free?
It's simple for the most part, provided that you already have a regular Battle.net account at the ready. All you need to do is launch your Battle.net client and look up Starcraft that way or, alternatively, follow the web link and go about claiming the game through your browser of choice. Either works, but it might be more streamlined if you look up Starcraft via Battle.net itself.
Interestingly, Blizzard released Warcraft I and Warcraft II on GoG a few months back, though they're not free, with the bundle sitting at $9.99 post-launch. Starcraft, on the other hand, is available via Battle.net and is completely free, so it might be wise to make use of the offer and download the game if you're even slightly interested in seeing this piece of gaming history.
Whether this means that Blizzard will launch more of their classics for free, we do not know, but only time will tell. Though Starcraft has been available as a free download for some time now, we felt a reminder was due. It's just that good.
