The Outer Worlds is going to let you murder any character you like, according to recent information. A blunt way of putting things, to be sure, but given the subject matter...
It is no secret that some fans of Bethesda's Fallout and Elder Scrolls titles have long argued against the implementation of so-called essential NPCs - characters which are crucial for the game in this way or the other, and are thus unkillable. No such thing in Outer Worlds.
Speaking with RPG Site on behalf of Obsidian Entertainment, Senior Narrative Designer Kathryn Megan Starks has chosen to reveal various tidbits of curious information about The Outer Worlds, one of which is that the game will feature no essential NPCs whatsoever.
"As a designer, I'm always tempted to just have it made so that you can't kill this person or that person," said Megan Starks. "But we have a philosophy where we feel like it makes for a better gameplay experience to allow the player to do these sorts of things. You can even kill the scientist if you want."
So there you have it. Should you choose to play the game that way, The Outer Worlds can be a proper murder-marathon from the very start! Can't get frisky, though.
