Publisher and developer Supercube today announced that space survival sim The Pioneers: Surviving Desolation is set to enter Steam Early Access later in January.
The title puts players in control of a team of three characters who must survive the harsh environments of Io after their ship crashes. Stuck in an unfamiliar environment, your crew’s life is threatened by low gravity, volcanoes, magnetic storms, and other dangers.
To survive, you’ll need to set up a base and upgrade it. In turn, this allows you to craft better equipment or have access to improved engineering and healthcare.
Accessing these improvements involves exploring the planet’s different biomes using your trusty rover and flying drone.
Each of them houses both scientific data you’ll need for your mission as well as precious resources that fuel the game’s crafting system.
Your three characters are chosen randomly from a pool of 15. They come with their own strengths and weaknesses which you’ll need to make use of or navigate around as you explore.
The Pioneers: Surviving Desolation features multiple winning conditions and possible endings, aiming for replayability.
When it launches into early access, where it aims to stay for 18 months, the game will give players a taste of how it handles exploration, station expansion, and crew management.
Developer Supercube aims to deploy regular updates over this period, expanding the game’s systems.
The Pioneers: Surviving Desolation enters Steam Early Access on January 20 and can already be wishlisted on Valve’s storefront.
