The Witcher 3’s long-awaited next-gen update will break some of the RPG’s most popular mods, but developer CD Projekt Red plans to help modders fix their creations by providing advice and updated modding tools.
A good number of The Witcher 3’s most popular mods that rely on scripts, alongside a few others, will break once the next-gen update goes live.
The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update Mods
CD Projekt Red has put together a list, highlighting the ones most likely to return error messages once the game transitions to its newest version.
The next-gen update will be accompanied by a new version of the Witcher 3’s command line tools for modders (Modkit) that ensures compatibility and includes “many bug fixes.”
The developer’s team of modding experts will also provide “help and advice” via the forums following its release.
The final step in the developer’s efforts involves “an updated version of TW3 WolvenKit” that will go live “soon after the update’s release.”
With the holidays right around the corner, you can keep track of its status on github, where any delays will also be signaled.
The Witcher 3’s next-gen update will also include a handful of the game’s most popular mods. The exact list varies depending on the platform of your choice.
“We obtained permissions from their creators, reimbursed them, and they’ll be featured in the credits of the updated game,” reads a post on CD Projekt Red’s forums. “The mods were reworked and assets optimised as needed, and the game adjusted to run with them.
“There was even a case when a dev got so engrossed in tinkering when including a mod that he ended up simply remaking that particular aspect of the game. So, in a way, the game comes with some mods already included.”
The Witcher 3’s next-gen update is currently slated to launch on December 14, 2022.
