Total War: Pharaoh is the next historical entry in the series, developer Creative Assembly Sofia taking it upon itself to create an authentic rendition of leading an empire during the late Bronze Age. One mechanic that plays into this comes in the shape of crowns unlocked once you ascend to the throne.
Unsurprisingly, becoming Pharaoh is one potential major goal in Total War: Pharaoh. Taking the throne won’t be easy, as you will have to face other contenders, external enemies, and natural disasters. But once you’ve already secured enough legitimacy and installed yourself as Egypt’s one ruler, more options to decide the fate of your kingdom open up.
Total War: Pharaoh Crowns
“The Pharaoh’s Crown affects your ability to govern within the campaign layer. In the New Kingdom, a Pharaoh would have a collection of crowns, each representing different aspects of their legitimacy and power, and we wanted to represent that in game,” Game Director Todor Nikolov told GameWatcher.
“Should you gain enough Legitimacy to become Pharaoh and conquer Sacred Lands, these crowns will be unlocked, granting powers that will allow you to shape Egypt to your will, such as the ability to force annexation upon weak factions.”
Another potential effect that crowns can grant, as revealed during our hands-on preview with Total War: Pharaoh, is the removal of building restrictions.
“Throughout the campaign the AI will be competing with you for legitimacy to become Pharaoh or Great King, and you will need to win the ensuing war to gain access to this system,” Nikolov added.
Once you become Pharaoh, you also have access to Ancient Legacies that allow you to emulate the deeds of past rulers.
They can include “constructing the great architectural wonders, creating a great trading nation, or even converting the pantheon of the gods into one supreme deity.”
Total War: Pharaoh is slated to launch on PC at some point in October 2023. Check out its list of launch factions to get some help with planning your first playthrough.
