Publisher Sega and developer Creative Assembly today announced that Total War Saga: Troy’s next DLC, the Rhesus & Memnon Faction Pack, has locked down its release date to mid-December.
The Rhesus & Memnon Faction Pack introduces two new playable factions to Total War Saga: Troy, led by the characters that give the DLC its name. Each one comes with its own unique campaign mechanics, their rosters boasting no less than 49 new units.
Hailing from Thrace, Rhesus’ units “rely on strong early engagements, decisive charges,” and prefer fighting without relying on shields. Powerful charges, good armor-piercing damage, as well as excellent morale compensate for their lower defensive abilities.
On the campaign map, Rhesus’ Countless Host mechanic sees him seeking out Thracian tribes and attempting to unite them under his own banner.
Successfully doing so unlocks host armies that can be used to ravage enemy lands. His Thracian Rituals mechanic then grants the faction different bonuses, buffs, and allows it to recruit elite units as Rhesus pleases the old cults of Thrace.
A distant cousin of princes Paris and Hector, Memnon leads the armies of Aethiopia, a vassal state of Pharaonic Egypt. His armies rely on “quick, lightly armored warriors that have the tools to stay engaged in battle,” while also benefitting from the different strategic advantages of the cultures from where his soldiers are recruited.
As far as campaign mechanics go, Memnon’s army fights as a horde, unable to occupy settlements and using War Spoils to further its efforts. Pharoah’s Servant, then sees the hero enacting Royal Decrees that unlock units from four regions of the world – Aethiopia, Egypt, Canaan, and Susa.
Although he cannot make use of Spy, Envoy, or Priestess Agents, Memnon’s prestige attracts camp followers who increase his armies’ strength or grant access to special actions before battle.
Total War Saga: Troy’s Rhesus & Memnon Faction Pack has locked down its release date to December 14 and will be priced at £7.99/$9.99/€9.99 or your regional equivalent.
