With the addition of races dedicated to the Chaos Gods and new lores of magic, Total War: Warhammer 3’s real-time battles could reach the series’ peak intensity.
Alongside new units, mechanics, and spells, developer Creative Assembly is also looking to bring quality-of-life improvements to Ambush battles and add more clarity to autoresolve results.
Total War Warhammer 3 Autoresolve Battle Results
In previous entries, using autoresolve to decide the results of a battle was always a bit of a gamble, especially if you were facing an army of equal strength. Many players would opt to use it only as a skip for clear-cut battles, but even that didn’t always save your veteran dragon that’s scored thousands of kills from falling to one measly unit of very lucky goblins.
It didn’t help that you would only learn the outcome after the fact, which meant that you either had to live with it or resort to save scumming. That will change in Total War: Warhammer 3.
Players will be told the predicted result before committing to autoresolve, as well as which units will die in battle and the general number of casualties.
“We’ve made some improvements to our auto-test system. This has allowed us to gather better data, so it’s gonna be much cleaner for the auto-resolve to use and for us to balance the wealth of content. We’ve got a lot more data to go off, it should be cleaner across the board, and we should have less random units that completely skew the autoresolve,” Battle Designer James Martin said.
Additionally, Warhammer 3’s Ambush battles wil borrow from Three Kingdoms, and give the army taken by surprise a chance to escape by moving its units to a designated withdraw point.
