Total War: Warhammer 3 - Omens of Destruction has plenty in store for those of us seeking the thrills of a mercenary life, as the Ogre Kingdoms’ newest legendary lord, Golgfag Maneater, carves a bloody path across the world, growing his legend while securing more meat and riches for his band of hired warriors.
Loyalty is a malleable concept for Golgfag, who eagerly takes on mercenary contracts from any race willing to properly reward him for his services. In true Ogre Kingdoms fashion, roaming the map in search for work and targets while plopping down camps to reinforce remain core parts of your efforts, even if the Maneater himself does things a bit differently.
Total War: Warhammer 3 - Omens of Destruction Golgfag Maneater
On the battlefield, he is a veritable infantry killing machine that quickly thins out enemy ranks. He passively debuffs nearby foes, reducing their offensive and defensive capabilities. In addition, he can chug Bugman’s XXXXX ale outside of combat to heal and restore vigor.
When he spots a high-value target, his Dead Eye ability allows him to fire a single shot from his pistol, dealing large amounts of armor-piercing damage.
Golgfag Maneater’s core mechanic in Total War: Warhammer 3 - Omens of Destruction are mercenary contracts. After accepting one of several potential choices, he earns points towards its completion by “making acts of aggression against the enemy within a specified turn-limit.”
After reaching his goal, he can claim the rewards associated to said contract, which can include meat, Maneater Banners alongside culture-unique items and ancillaries.
According to the developer, contracts “vary in rewards depending on the level of difficulty which is determined by how many enemies the client has and their cumulative strength.”
This encourages Golgfag to rely much more on sacking and razing settlements to gather meat, a resource described by the developer as “essential for maintaining Ogre Camps, which we treat as the equivalent of Major Settlements.”
Aiding the Ogre Kingdoms’ newest lord on his journey is legendary hero Bragg the Gutsman – boasting an ability that allows him to instantly eliminate foes – alongside six new units.
The Ogre Paymaster lord might not be as strong as his peers but makes up for it by providing buffs to nearby allies. The Bruiser hero improves the leadership of friendly units while being able to shrug off charges and disrupt enemy formations with his sheer size.
The Ogre Kingdoms get their first flying unit in Total War: Warhammer 3 - Omens of Destruction through the introduction of the agile Blood Vultures who can easily neutralize isolated ranged or otherwise vulnerable units.
Thundertusks blend massive strength with ranged frost attacks while the Yhetees savagely strike using their dual weapons, which they can imbue with frostbite.
Pigback Riders showcase the Gnoblars’ deep understanding of battle tactics, seeing one Gnoblar riding on another’s back while wielding a shield. Lastly, Golgfag’s Maneaters decimate infantry through sheer strength and powerful charges.
In addition to the paid content above, Update 6.0, which accompanies Total War: Warhammer III’s Omens of Destruction DLC, brings changes to several Ogre Kingdoms mechanics.
Meat is more plentiful and can be transferred between armies and camps as well as be used elsewhere. The Offerings to the Great Maw are becoming more interactive while Ogre Camps can move around the map.
The race’s technology tree has been split into two tabs, while Greasus and Skrag are set to receive smaller unique features that play into their roles as overtyrant and slaughterer, respectively.
For more on Golgfag Maneater, there’s a dedicated blog post over on the game’s forums. We also covered Skulltaker, Khorne’s newest best pal, in an article, which you should definitely check out.
Total War: Warhammer III - Omens of Destruction is set to launch on December 12.
